I’m Megan Engle, a journalist driven by curiosity. I’m currently a morning news producer at WVLT News, working in Knoxville, Ten., the country’s 60th-largest television market.

As a producer, I research, write, edit, and format news, building fast-paced newscasts. I work to balance breaking news, local reporting, national stories, and live coverage, helping viewers start their day. I find and write breaking news as it develops, monitor social media and other sources for emerging stories, coordinate live hits, and make editorial decisions in a deadline-driven newsroom.

I have a special interest in ratings data and audience behavior. Up until a recent scheduling change, I produced our station's leading morning newscast. Ratings data shows my show consistently built both rating and audience share throughout the hour, typically surpassing the usual market leader. Now on my new morning show, I am working to improve rating and audience share by adding audience engagement elements, varying visual elements, and adopting a faster pace.

I earned my master’s of professional studies (MPS) in journalism at Georgetown University, where I focused on policy, culture, and data. Before that, I triple majored in political science, English, and French at the University of Tennessee. I also spent a year in Belgium as a Fulbright Scholar, researching electoral policy's relationship with political participation. I completed my Fulbright research at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, earning a master of political science. 

My reporting experience ranges from covering congressional hearings in real time to turning spreadsheets and geodata into stories. I’ve covered the federal government, local government, workforce issues, and community news. I’m just as comfortable digging through data as I am interviewing someone on their front porch. My background spans writing, audio, video, and photography, with a particular interest in translating complicated subjects into clear, engaging multimedia projects.
